About the Artist

I am a lifelong educator whose professional background is in high school English Language Arts, with a focus on language and rhetoric. In 2023, I took a wheel-throwing class with a friend as a way to explore a creative outlet beyond the classroom, manage stress, and find better balance during a season of transition and change. I never looked back. While I began on the wheel, my practice gradually evolved toward hand-building, where I found a deeper connection to slower, more intuitive forms of making.

My background in English Language Arts shapes the way I approach clay. In the classroom, I invite students to explore the tensions within literature and writing: the spaces where opposing ideas, competing values, and the complexities of life reveal deeper meaning. I find myself approaching clay in much of the same way, using form, texture, and surface to explore those same tensions as they exist in both the natural world and the human experience. While deeply inspired by the natural world, my work also grows from my own journey of learning to embrace transition, seek balance, and remain open to becoming.

My ceramic practice moves between two surface approaches. One explores the atmospheric unpredictability of high-iron stoneware fired in cone 11 reduction using carbon trap Shino and wax resist techniques, where fire, carbon trapping, and glaze movement create weathered, earthy surfaces rich with depth and variation. The other embraces layering and blending color on cone 6 stoneware, allowing flowing glazes to bloom into organic patterns.

This space is where I document how my art, as a reflection of myself, changes and grows.
